Animal attacks and dog bite cases are some of the most heart-breaking kinds of cases. Many times, it is children who are attacked by animals, and permanent scarring and terrible injuries, and even death, can result. The owners of the dog often believe that their dog is friendly, and a part of the family, so they are often in denial that their dog could bite and attack a person with no provocation. In fact, teasing or provoking a dog is a defense to a dog bite case.
Many breed of dog are larage and powerful, and sometime, owners train them to be aggresive. A large dog can greatly harm or even kill and grown man. it does not take much to realize that a child, being smaller and less able to defend himself or herself from a dog bite or attack, is in grave danger when a dog bites or attcks.
Dog bites and injuries can result in some of the most serious and permanent (and often, catastrophic) injuries I see in my law practice. Because of the high cost of serious necessary medical treatment, and the high insurance policy limits which cover many home owners of dogs, their insurance companies hire aggressive defense attorneys and these kinds of cases can turn into a real fight. You would be wrong to assume that anyone’s insurance company or lawyer is going to take it easy on you, especially if your case involves a terrible, permanent scar.
If you or a loved one has been involved in an animal attack or dog bite case, there are many, many facts and details that can means the difference between winning the case or ending up with a lower settlement for your injuries than you deserve – or possibly even losing the case altogether.
Identifying all responsible parties and their insurance coverage, the dog owner or who was keeping the dog or other animal at the time of the attack, and getting a good understanding as to whether the dog or animal was provoked to attack are some of the most important first steps you can take if you or a loved one has been iunjured in an animal attack or dog bite.
Any time you are dealing with an insurance company – and in dog bite/animal attack cases, you almost always are – you must understand that you are dealing with people who spend their every waking hour trying to beat injured people out of their fair settlement for their injuries. There are large amounts of money on the line for the involved insurance companies, so they think nothing of spending money on lawyers to defeat your case.
Hiring the right lawyer – a lawyer experienced in taking real cases to court – is the smartest thing to do if you or a loved one has been involved in a dog bite injury. It is really the only way to make sure that your fight against the insurance companies is fair. But only you can make this important decision that can make or break your case. Only you can act now to protect your rights.
